Beccy Meehan is a journalist and presenter at the BBC, where she fronts North West Tonight at the weekend and reports for the show during the week.

Previously she spent five years as a presenter at business news channel CNBC and reported from locations around the UK including the London Stock Exchange, trading floors around the City, the Bank of England and 10 Downing Street and locations around Europe including Barcelona, Dublin, Warsaw, Paris and Brussels. Last year she reported live from Moscow’s Red Square on the Russian election.

One of Beccy’s recent highlights was making a documentary on the run-up to the London 2012. She was filmed competing in the London Hyde Park triathlon and attended the London Prepares series to interview sportspeople including Clive Woodward, Jonathan Edwards, Shanaze Reade, Steve Redgrave and Seb Coe.

Beccy started her career in print news over a decade ago as a reporter for The Blackpool Citizen. She went on to become a staff reporter at Money Marketing, a trade paper for the financial services industry.

In 2003, Beccy moved to Bloomberg News in London, first as general assignment reporter, before becoming European airlines reporter, where she first appeared on television.

Beccy moved to New York City in 2005 to become a technology reporter at Bloomberg’s global headquarters covering companies including Microsoft, IBM and Motorola and travelling extensively around the US and Canada. During this period she also reported on tech news for Bloomberg Television and made her first documentary based around a long-form interview with Richard Branson.

In 2006, Beccy took her first full-time TV presenting role back in London as the European markets reporter for Bloomberg TV, before moving to CNBC late in 2007.

Beccy grew up in Lancaster, where she attended Lancaster Girls’ Grammar School. She holds a BSc in Government & Economics from the London School of Economics and a PG.Dip Newspaper Journalism with a specialism in UK politics from City University in London.

Outside of work Beccy is an enthusiastic and wholly untalented sportswoman. In an attempt to make up for lack of ability with endurance, Beccy competes in Olympic distance and half-ironman triathlon and has cycled a lap of Ireland, as well as Land’s End-John O’Groats.

Beccy also volunteers as Girl Guide leader and tea-party host for Contact the Elderly and serves as a school governor for Villiers High School in Southall.

Beccy lives near Manchester with her husband, daughter and Great Dane.
